Introduction
Tarot cards are used for the purpose of divination, i.e. looking into the future by means of the supernatural – which is also known as cartomancy. Tarot has been used as a fortune-telling tool for generations, but its origins are widely disputed. Some believe that tarot cards were first introduced by the ancient Egyptians, although others maintain that it derives from the medieval Italian card game of tarocco.
Tarot readings can vary a great deal from reader to reader. It’s a very personal tool and each reader has their own method for spreading and interpreting the cards on the table. The cards themselves are highly symbolic and rich with meaning, so the key is to unlock the messages buried within them. Intuition is what makes an effective reading – tarot readers let their instincts guide them in the interpretation of the cards.
